Shards of glass
Author:
Ninja "The Bong Collector"
Originally,
this column was to be published on www.tokecity.com, as some of
you might remember. It was put on hold so we could found Glass
Aficionado magazine.
This column
will now be continued here, on Glass Aficionado.
A few things
to look forward to in the scene is the addition of our “ what’s
happening” column that will try to update readers of current
events and upcoming announcements in the glass scene.
Some people of
note:
We’d like to
thank Dementia and RooR, US for their ongoing support in the
glass art scene and glass aficionado magazine.
Dementia has
some of the finest glass art stores in the country and they are
famous for their support of the art glass scene.
We would also
like to thank Scott at Honalee Glass for his support and
assistance.
His efforts
have introduced new artists to the scene and his support here at
Glass Aficionado is greatly appreciated.
Also I’d Like
to thank the crew at Toro tubes for all the help and assistance
they’ve given us.
They have gone
above and beyond to support us and we thank you.
The list here
could go on forever, so I‘ll save some for later.
Some new
pieces to keep an eye out for are the new TCT tubes as reviewed
in this months issue.
There are two
styles that have new types of percolation systems that are
definitely worth checking out.
Some fantastic
new pieces from the FYC shop and a review of the new Toro tree
perc “Trash catchers” are included, as well as a new Toro
bubbler.
Heads up Lab
ware fans.
Look for the
new beaker style Toro tubes to hit shelves later this summer.
A full review
will be posted on GA as soon as they are available.
This issue
focuses on some heady bubblers, and features some aficionado
bubblers by Pakoh, that are amazing pieces, as well as work by
Freeek, kennaroo and others.
This months
raffle giveaway is special, with a bubbler by Doc Holiday
studios and an attachment to connect it to the brand new Digi
Vape D40 digital vaporizer.
Over $350
total value.
Also, a gift
certificate worth $130 off a purchase from Vapor whips will be
given away.
Congratulations to our raffle winners, 3comb and MakeItLegal.
Other people
of note are Dustin Revere at Revere Glass School.
His
innovations and work at sharing knowledge comes at a time when
communication of glass artists among each other is at an all
time high.
This is a
great time for collectors and artists alike and inspiration is
the order of the day as more and more glass artists assemble to
produce masterpieces that are collective collaborations which
often include several completely different styles into one
piece.
With the speed
and reach of the internet, online community sites have brought
together artists who share their talents and techniques which
help the talent pool grow deeper by the day.
The new
inspiration from a fresh generation of artistic thinkers fuels
the talented masters to extend their knowledge leading to some
of the most groundbreaking artwork of our time.
For glass
heads like us, we are living in some wonderful times.
Also keep an
eye out for a wonderful new progression here at Glass Aficionado
to help artists in the sharing or artistic visions and ideas.
Next month
look for some highlighted old-school and extremely unique glass
pieces, and some reviews on some brand new glass products that
are available at fine shops in your area.
Glass
Aficionado magazine is still in it’s early stages, and we truly
appreciate all the support as we cut our teeth in the scene, and
begin to grow.
We look
forward to some new staff members here at Glass aficionado, and
we will announce and welcome them in the next issue.
Reviews will
now be updated regularly, throughout the month.
As soon as we
review a piece, the review will be available for subscribers to
check out immediately.
