Overall
review:
I’ve been
interested in the functionality of this gadget internal
percolation system for some time, as any new innovation in
percolation interests me.
So when I got
the opportunity to test drive the latest version of TCT’s gadget
perc I had to accept.
Fit and finish
is top quality on these limited production tubes.
Over all
balance and assembly is very tight and these are not cheaply
made pieces.
The work is
super tight and the fade to clear sections are nicely done with
very clean welds.

There is no
joint wobble.
The internal
up stem of the gadget perc system is a sealed stem, with an open
end and 3 side holes at the lower edge.

Water is
filled to cover the holes slightly allowing the system to work.
When drawn,
the vacuum pulls water up the stem and creates another sealed
chamber that gives the water second level of filtration.
There is a
noticeable amount of drag associated with this design, but
overall it’s very acceptable for a three foot tube.
The drag can
be tuned a bit by adjusting the water level in the lower
chamber.

If the lower
holes are partially exposed above the water level, it reduces
the amount of drag needed to pull the water and activate the
system.
If the water
level is higher, drag is increased, but the water will actually
move into the sealed ice chamber and through another layer of
filtration.
This is
accomplished with the addition of a hollow “handle” on the neck
of the tube connection between the top of the second chamber to
the bottom of the ice chamber.
Inside the
handle is a small internal vent hole that prevents water lock
and creates the third filtration level.

This does add
considerable drag, so I really don’t utilize that feature as
much, but this will also allow any runoff from the ice melt to
fall all the way to the lower chamber.
Another
interesting observation is the smoothness of the hit.
Apparently,
the gadget and the internal water displacement creates somewhat
of an optical illusion.
Total milking
of this tube is very easy, and feels like milking a much smaller
piece.
For anyone
that would like a new take on perc tubes, or wants something
extremely unique, this is definitely the tube for you.
I am not
easily impressed with many new designs, but this tube definitely
impressed me.
